Are People Still Blogging in the Age of AI?

If you've been asking yourself whether blogs are still worth investing time into for your business, trust me, you're not the only one. It's one of the questions constantly popping up in entrepreneur spaces, Facebook groups, and marketing forums. And with AI-generated content seemingly taking over the internet and social media changing faster than ever, it's a fair question to ask.

So let's just get right into it: yes, people are absolutely still blogging in the age of AI. But there's no doubt that how blogs work, how they get found, and what makes them effective have certainly evolved.

If you've been sitting on the idea of starting a blog or reviving one you abandoned a few years back, here's what you actually need to know.

Blogs Are Not Dead...But Expectations Have Changed

There was a time when you could slap up a 300-word post, sprinkle in a few keywords, and watch the traffic roll in. Those days are long gone. Google has gotten a lot smarter about what it puts in front of people, and so have readers.

What works now is content that actually has substance...the longer, more thoughtful posts that go deep on a topic, answer real questions, and demonstrate that the writer actually knows what they're talking about. The blogs that are struggling right now are the ones that never made that adjustment, not the action of blogging itself.

At the same time, many business owners are understandably discouraged. AI overviews and featured snippets are changing how people find information, and many bloggers who are putting real effort into their content are still seeing fewer clicks than before. But that doesn’t mean blogs are no longer valuable.

If you want to go deeper into how blogs themselves have changed in the age of AI and what they actually need to do now to stay effective, I talk more about that in my post, If You’re Going to Have a Business Blog, It Needs to Do More Than Exist.

Why Blogging Still Makes Sense for Business Owners

For business owners, a blog is honestly one of the most underrated tools in your marketing. Here's why:

First, as mentioned in my post 5 Reasons You Need a Blog for Your Business, it builds authority in a way that social media simply cannot. When someone lands on your website and finds a list of content where you're breaking down topics, sharing your perspective, and demonstrating real expertise. That's the part that builds trust before they ever reach out to you. And trust is what converts browsers into buyers.

Second, a blog gives your personality room to breathe. Social media is great, but you're working with limited space, short attention spans, and an algorithm that may or may not show your content to the people who actually follow you. A blog post gives you the space to tell a story, share an opinion, walk someone through a concept, and show them who you are beyond the highlight reel. That kind of depth is hard to replicate in a caption or a reel.

Third, your blog works for you around the clock. A post you write today can bring someone to your website six months from now. Social media content has a lifespan of maybe a few hours (if that). Blog content, when written well, keeps showing up in search results long after you hit "Publish."

What Your Audience Gets Out of It

From your reader's perspective, a blog is a chance to actually dig into something. They're not just getting a quick tip or a trending audio clip; they're getting real insights from someone they either already trust or are just getting to know.

People are still Googling things every single day. They are searching for answers, seeking recommendations, and trying to figure out how to solve a problem. A well-written, SEO-optimized blog post can be exactly what they were looking for, and it can be the first introduction they have to you and what you do. If you ask me, that's a pretty powerful thing to have working in the background of your business.

Yes, AI Changed Things (But Not in the Way You Might Think)

Many people assume that AI has made blogging obsolete. I mean, why would someone spend time reading a blog post when they can just ask ChatGPT or Claude, right?

But here's what that argument is missing: AI doesn't create original content. It pulls from content that already exists on the internet, content that real people wrote. Every response an AI tool generates is built on a foundation of articles, blog posts, and other resources created by human beings. So if the blogging stops, eventually there will be nothing left for it to pull from.

Your blog is your content, your perspective, and your expertise. No matter what some may believe, AI genuinely cannot replicate that, because there is only one you. The opinions you hold, the experiences you bring, and the specific way you explain things to your audience are what make your content feel authentic, and that matters more now than ever before. None of that exists in AI unless you put it there.

Beyond that, Google has been very clear that original, helpful, people-first content is what it wants to surface in search results. AI-generated content that exists solely to fill space is actively being filtered out. So the business owners who keep showing up with real, thoughtful blog content are the ones who will have a significant advantage in search over the next few years.

So, What Does Need to Change?

If you want your blog to actually get found in the age of AI, here are the things you need to do:

  • Write about topics your audience is actually searching for, not just what you feel like talking about on a given day.

  • Go deep enough on a topic that your post genuinely answers the question someone came with.

  • Have a clear structure that is easy to read and easy for Google to understand.

  • Be consistent enough for your website to be seen as an active, relevant resource.

As you can see, none of that is complicated. It just requires intention, which, honestly, is true of any good marketing.

At The End of The Day...

Blogging is not a thing of the past. It is not something to hand off entirely to AI, and it is definitely not something to abandon just because the landscape has changed. If you truly want to build authority, attract the right audience, and create content with a longer shelf life than a social media post, a blog is still one of the best investments you can make.
